World Cup 2022: Morocco Secures 3 Points After 2-0 Victory Against Belgium

Rabat - Morocco defeated Belgium 2-0 during today’s match as part of the World Cup’s Group F at the group stage.

Abdelhamid Sabiri opened the scoring for Morocco at the 73rd  minute giving his team players a surge of confidence with the hopes to qualify for the 16 round of the World Cup tournament in sight.

Sabiri’s goal was not the first of the match, Hakim Ziyech scored a goal in the first half but it was later disallowed following a VAR check.

The Atlas Lions started the first half in panic, allowing Belgium to secure more ball possessions, corners, and goal attempts. The game definitely saw a change in the second half, with the Atlas Lions’ utilizing tactical techniques and strengthening their defense against the rival team. 

Zakaria Aboukhlal scored a second goal for Morocco, stunning the opponent during added time.

The win gave Morocco a further three points, bringing the total to four securing Morocco’s place in the group stage.

Morocco already has one point after its 0-0 tie against Croatia on Wednesday. 

Morocco acknowledged that this game will be a tough match for both teams.

The Atlas Lion’s head coach Walid Regragui said that Belgium “has a fantastic coach,” as well as some of the world’s top players, and substantial experience.

The coach advised his team to display “more technical mastery compared to the first game” against Croatia, stressing the capabilities of the Atlas Lions.

Morocco played its opening game during the group stage with Croatia on Wednesday. 

The performance against Croatia was celebrated among international media, particularly in Spain. Spanish news outlets applauded the Moroccan team’s defense line against the 2018 World Cup finalist.

“Croatia got stuck before a physical, fast, and intense football team that was capable of blocking all the paths for Luka Modric and even disturb[ing] the European defense on more than one occasion,” Mundo Deportivo said.
