Morocco Confirms 4,299 New COVID-19 Cases in 24 Hours

Rabat - Morocco’s Health Ministry confirmed 4,299 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

The number represents a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases compared to the past few weeks.

With the new infections, Morocco has now confirmed a total number of 971,961 COVID cases, including 14,867 deaths and 943,070 recoveries since the COVID-19 virus was first reported in the North African country in March 2020.

In the past 24 hours, Morocco recorded five new fatalities due to COVID-19 and 1,147 new recoveries.

The number of active COVID-19 cases reached 14,024.

In the past 24 hours, Morocco carried out 22,169 COVID tests, while the total number of requested COVID-19 tests reached 9,936,483.

About 183 cases of active COVID-19 cases in Morocco are in critical cases.

In terms of the regional distribution of cases, Casablanca-Settat recorded the majority of new cases in the past 24 hours and one death.

Rabat-Sale-Kenitra is the second region to report a relatively large number of new cases (658 cases, one death), followed by Marrakech Safi (322 cases, two deaths), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (74 cases), Fez-Meknes (63 cases), Souss-Massa (43 cases), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (33 cases), Oriental (21 cases), Laayoune Sakia El Hamra (11 cases, one death), Draa Tafilalet (10 cases), Guelmim Oued Noun (10 cases), and Dakhla Oued Eddahab (eight cases).

Morocco entered a third COVID-19 wave three weeks ago. Health officials are urging citizens and residents to get vaccinated and take preventive measures seriously, including correctly wearing face masks.
