WAFCON: Morocco to Face Nigeria in Semi-finals

Rabat - The Nigerian women's football team has qualified for the semifinals of the Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.

Nigeria qualified after beating its Cameroonian counterpart by a score of 1-0 in the quarter-finals played Thursday night at the Mohammed V sports complex in Casablanca.

The only goal of the Nigerian team was scored by Rasheedat Ajibade in the 56th minute.

The Super Falcons will now face Morocco in the semifinals of the tournament, scheduled to take place at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex at 9 p.m on July 18.

With its win, Nigeria has secured its ninth consecutive qualification to the FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, 2023.

Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses made history with their first-ever qualification for the Women’s World Cup after defeating Botswana during the quarter finals of the WAFCON.

Striker Ghizlane Chebbak, who was voted the best player of the group stage, was designated “Woman of the Match.”

In the same evening, the South African team clinched its ticket for the semi-finals of the WAFCON 2022 after beating their Tunisian counterparts 1-0.

Jermaine Seoposenwe's first-half strike was enough to help Banyana Banyana win the match and secure their second successive appearance at the World Cup.

South Africa is set to play the semifinals against Zambia on July 18.
