Germany Reaffirms Commitment To Deepen Cooperation With Morocco

Rabat - German ambassador to Morocco Robert Dolger reaffirmed his country’s willingness to further deepen cooperation with Morocco in all fields.

The German ambassador made his remarks on Wednesday, July 14 during talks with Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councilors Naam Miyara.

The talks focused on areas of bilateral cooperation and ways to further boost diplomatic ties.

A communique from the House of Councilors said that Miyara expressed his "great appreciation for the Moroccan-German relations, which are witnessing a new start.”

In May 2021, Morocco recalled its ambassador to Berlin for consultations amid deepening diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

In a statement, Morocco’s Foreign Ministry said the decision to recall Ambassador Alaoui was due to Germany’s “antagonistic” activism following former US President Donald Trump’s proclamation recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.

Germany’s new government, however, has worked tirelessly to overcome the tensions with Morocco, supporting Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as a viable contribution to the UN-led political process that seeks to find a mutually acceptable solution to end the dispute over Western Sahara.

Satisfied with recent developments, Miyara emphasized the importance of Germany as a pivotal country, saying that its experience is a source of inspiration in both the economic and political fields.

For his part, the German envoy stressed that the recent developments in bilateral ties between the two countries provide a solid basis to build a “prosperous joint future and consolidate vitality in bilateral relations” and to work to expand and consolidate cooperation -- particularly in the field of renewables.
