King of Morocco congratulates President of Algeria on his country’s independence day

Moroccan King Mohammed VI said that the people of his country feel their common struggle with the Algerian people for freedom and independence.

This came in a congratulatory telegraph sent by King Mohammed VI to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the occasion of his country’s independence day.

On July 5 of each year, Algeria celebrates its anniversary of independence from France, as colonialism lasted from 1830 to 1962.

In this telegraph, the Moroccan monarch expressed to the Algerian president “his warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Algerian people for progress and prosperity.”

“The Moroccan people share with their Algerian brothers the feelings of celebrating this glorious occasion, recalling with pride the pages of cohesion and sincere fraternal solidarity that the memory of their joint heroic struggle for freedom and independence holds,” he said.

For decades, Algerian-Moroccan relations have witnessed a blockage against the background of the two closed land borders files since 1994, and the issue of the disputed Western Sahara region between Rabat and the “Polisario” Front.

In the Western Sahara issue, Rabat proposes expanded autonomy in the Western Sahara region under its sovereignty, while the Polisario Front calls for a referendum for self-determination, a proposal supported by Algeria, which hosts refugees from the region.
